Aviation 3D Printing for Wichita

Wichita builds airframes and aerostructures at a scale few cities match, and every line runs on tooling: drill guides, trim templates, inspection fixtures and the shop aids that keep a mechanic's hands free. Printing that tooling turns a design change into new fixtures without a trip through the machine shop, with research support nearby at NIAR.

What we print for aviation teams

Drill guides and trim templates

Carbon-fiber nylon guides that hold their shape and weigh a fraction of aluminum ones.

Inspection and check fixtures

Nests that locate a skin panel or bracket for a go/no-go check on the floor.

Ducting and ECS prototypes

Test the routing and fit of an air duct before committing to a production process.

Shop aids and protective covers

Tool holders, edge protectors and caps in TPU that will not mar a finished surface.
